Summary: A recent study identifi ed genetic variations within the miRNA response elements of miRNA target genes (miRSNP) that can affect the base paring between miRNAs and their targets, and hence alter miRNA–target interactions. The authors also undertook functional validation studies and were able to demonstrate that overexpression of miR-3162-5p resulted in a 20% decrease in expression of the KLK3 rs1058205 SNP T-allele. Computational Identification of Micro RNAs and Their Transcript Target(s) in Field Mustard (Brassica rapa L.)
Background: Micro RNAs (miRNAs) are a pivotal part of non-protein-coding endogenous small RNA molecules that regulate the genes involved in plant growth and development, and respond to biotic and abiotic environmental stresses posttranscriptionally. Objective: In the present study, we report the results of a systemic search for identifi cation of new miRNAs in B. rapa using homology-based ...

JCB • VOLUME 175 • NUMBER 3 • 2006 366 C ancer biologists are constantly hunting for tumor-specifi c antigens that can be targeted for monoclonal antibody therapy. Work by Andrea Schietinger, Mary Philip, Hans Schreiber, and colleagues (University of Chicago, IL) reveals that you don’t need a mutation in the antigen itself to make it tumor specifi c. متن کاملTargeting Colorectal Cancer Cell Lines Using Nanobodies; AgSK1as a Potential Target
Background: Colorectal cancer is the third most common type of aggressive cancers. Chemotherapy, surgery, and radiotherapy are the common therapeutic options for treating this cancer. Due to the adverse side-eff ects of these methods, immunotherapy is considered as an appropriate alternative therapeutic option. Treatment through the application of monoclonal antibodies is considered as a n...

Leprosy (Hansen’s disease) is a chronic granulomatous infection caused by Mycobacterium leprae affecting primarily skin and nerves. Leprosy is an important clinical problem and is also a challenging diagnostic problem for clinicians. Clinically, leprosy might at times be diffi cult to be distinguished from lupus vulgaris. We report a 70-year-old woman who showed a well-demarcated erythematous e...
